Emergency Healing on a Plane!
Taylor and I were recently on long flight from Nashville to San Francisco. We were on tight schedule and had a connecting flight to Sacramento soon after we supposed to land. About an hour into the flight the overhead bell went off and a stewardess made an announcement saying, “If there are any doctors on board or EMT’s please ring your call bell. We have a passenger in need of medical attention.” I thought wow, what an opportunity! I leaned over into the aisle a little and could see several stewardesses and passengers crowding around somebody near the front of the plan. I said to Taylor, “Lets push our button!” To me, this was really exciting. First it was just like in a movie with something going wrong with the plane, and at the same time it was a perfect opportunity to heal someone all at once! I mean people on planes can’t go anywhere; they are like perfect targets for God’s love.
At that point Taylor thought we should wait on pushing our call button. There was kind of a crowd and we would have been in the way so we waited. After a few more minutes, some of the passengers in the aisle went back to their seats and we could see better. The stewardess got back on the inter come and said, “If anyone had any medicine [she said several drugs that I don’t know] please ring your call bell.”
So we decided it was time to push our call button! One of the flight stewardess immediately came to our row and ask if we had any medicine, assuming we were not old enough to be doctors. I said. “Well no, but I’m a minister, and I’ve seen Jesus heal a lot of people. I was wondering if I could go and pray for him to be healed?” I figured that if there weren’t any doctors on board being able to help, certainly they would want a minister. She gave me the weirdest look and was replied, “No, ah … No you can’t do that. We are actually going down for an emergency landing. You have to stay in your seat.” Then she went to the back of the play and began packing everything up. I was disappointed. Right after that, the captain got on the intercom and said, “Due to a medical situation with one of our passengers, we are going to make an emergency landing in Plano, TX. Everyone will have to stay on the plan while the passenger is taken by the EMT’s and then we will take off again for San Francisco” Now we where defiantly going to miss our next flight. I felt an urgency in my spirit that something should been done. So Taylor and I decided I should go try to pray for the guy anyway. I got up, and went to the stewardess in the back who told me no before and said, “Hey I don’t think you understand what I said. If I pray for him he will get better. So can I go do that now?”
She said, “Whatever. Just make sure you are in your seat. We are landing.” I thought, ‘That’s a Yes’. So I went up to the front of the plane and found the passenger. He had some reaction with a medication he took for flying, and also had blood sugar problems. He was sweating real badly, and they put an oxygen mask on him and the stewardesses were watching him. A retired surgeon was standing next to him taking care of him. So when the surgeon started talking to the flight crew about something, I went up to the guy and said, “Hey my name’s David. I’m a Christian, and I can pray for you right now, would you like that?” He said yes, and I began to pray for God to heal him. He felt peace immediately, and said thanks. I prayed about a minute and he said he felt much better. I told him I would be in the back of the plane if he needed anything, and went back to my seat.
I could tell he was doing much better. We I got back to my seat, I told Taylor and someone else on my row, “It's ok I prayed for him, and he’s doing much better. He will be fine. We were getting ready to land, the plane had already gone down below the clouds, when the captain made another announcement. He said, “Well, actually the passenger needing medical attention is doing much better. We have contacted ground control, and no longer believe he needs medical attention. We are cancelling our emergency landing, and are flying all the way to San Francisco.” I was like I told you guys he was better, Jesus healed him!
Isn’t that just awesome! God is totally in control all the time, and He has the last word. He wants to use everyone like this. Many times when crazy things happen, people around you will freak out, but God lives in perfect peace all the time, and you can too! I have learned that the more I step out in faith, the more I can rely on God to catch me. He’s got our back! As we step out, be confident He’s going to come through! If you feeling Him leading you to pray for someone, or do something, don’t hesitate, just do it! Praise the Lord, He is a glorious, all powerful, all loving healer!
